RENAISSANCE WORKS
The Coalition’s Renaissance Works initiative recognizes that housing is only one component of a lasting solution to homelessness. The Colorado unemployment rate is currently at 8 percent. Limited job possibilities contribute to the growing number of homeless individuals and families due to foreclosure or the inability to pay rent. Furthermore, many homeless individuals who seek employment lack transferable job skills or a consistent work history and are consequently overlooked in this highly competitive market.
For the past three years, the Coalition has been providing employment and vocational services for those we serve, and referring them to local opportunities. These efforts have been stymied by the lack of available jobs and the lack of community support for homeless persons without the consistent work histories or habits necessary for success.
In 2009, the Coalition established Renaissance Works as a transitional employment program for homeless individuals. This pilot project is achieving positive results.
