Sample language for a specific bequest to the Coalition through a will or living trust:
“I give to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, 2111 Champa Street, Denver, CO, 80205, a Colorado non-profit corporation (EIN: 84-0951575), the sum of $_______ [or ______% of my estate; or the property described herein], for its general purposes.”
Sample language for a residuary bequest to the Coalition is:
“I give to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, 2111 Champa Street, Denver, CO, 80205, a Colorado non-profit corporation (EIN: 84-0951575), all [or ____%] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, for its general purposes.”
Naming the Coalition as a beneficiary of a donor’s retirement plan, IRA, or life insurance policy is an easy and inexpensive way to create a legacy gift and may be done without the help of an attorney. The donor should simply request a Beneficiary Change Form from the employer’s Human Resources department, IRA custodian or insurance company. Beneficiary Change forms may be available online. Please indicate the desired percentage for the Coalition and return/submit the completed form.
The Coalition also encourages estate gifts through other arrangements, including Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder, and Charitable Lead Trusts. However, please note the Coalition prefers not to serve as Trustee for charitable trusts.
People who make estate or outright gifts may designate their gift for a specific purpose. Examples include:
- Greatest Need – Unrestricted funding to meet current or future needs in delivering healthcare, placing people into stable housing and offering supportive services that helps people maintain stability. In the absence of specific instructions funds will be directed to this fund
- Lasting Solutions Fund – A board-restricted fund to support affordable and supportive housing development to prevent and end homelessness by funding real estate acquisition, pre-development costs, construction and new program start up.
- Support of a current Coalition program — Support the work of a specific program or area (e.g., health care delivery, family services, vocational services) with your designated gift.
Please contact Liesl Thomas, Director of Philanthropy at lthomas@coloradocoalitin.org 303-312-9634 for more information about these options.
Thank You!
