May 25 Press Call to Announce Nationwide Study on Rent and Minimum Wage  

What: Press Call for Release of Out of Reach 2016 

In 2016, a renter working full time must earn $20.30 an hour to afford a decent two-bedroom apartment at the HUD-estimated Fair Market Rent. The 2016 Housing Wage is more than two and half times the federal minimum wage, and in 6 states as well as D.C. it exceeds $25.00 an hour. 

 

Out of Reach demonstrates the mismatch between housing costs and the wages people earn throughout the country. The report presents data for all states, metropolitan areas, and counties. The report highlights the lack of affordable housing experienced by many low income Americans.
